Charter Your Own Course

My name is Alex Charter and this summer I am fortunate enough to be interning with Cushing. Currently, I am a senior at the University of Missouri with sights set on a Marketing degree.   The first couple weeks have been eye opening (in a good way!) and I knew I was in store for an interesting experience when I was asked to jot down ideas for my own contribution to the Cushing blog.

I have had a crash course in the vast array of printing services and marketing solutions Cushing offers. Custom bound books, direct mail marketing, point of purchase displays – we seemingly do it all.

It’s also been an opportunity to understand the different marketing strategies they are using (and planning), from email marketing (that incorporates cross media) to social media.  Each day I am learning something new, including the idea that well thought out writing can make a difference in any marketing strategy.

Different projects have been assigned to me, from data mining that will help us customize content for site visitors to enhancing direct mail and email subscriber lists.  I’ve taken pictures that will be used for a new small format presentation graphics web page we are launching soon! (stay tuned or sign up for our email newsletter to receive developments, client spotlights and special promotions we are working on!.)  And also have contributed to our social media presence.

This is just in the first two weeks!

The Cushing team has been helpful and friendly. It is easy to see how this company has been around for over 80 years.  I can’t wait to see what’s in store for me down the road.

Maybe they’ll let me run one of the large format printers soon?
