New Development Concepts Spur Growth in the Near North
The rumbling about developing more community base commerce in the Cabrini Green area of Chicago is growing into dialogue. In an article in the Chicago Sun Times some of the issues regarding this project are clearly outlined.
For a developer to link an owner with the concept of developing on government (Chicago Housing Authority) owned property is unique in itself. Further conversation with Target, the owner in discussion, will include job growth and community impact, and there are a lot of voices to be heard.
This would be a great shot in the arm, though, for the community and residential neighborhood that is replacing the star-crossed Cabrini Green development. With all of the original residences now razed, amenities in the neighborhood are still few and far between, and the Target brand would serve a large portion of the new residents who would be approaching the shopping on foot and public transportation. I hope that all parties can resolve their issues soon because this would be a GREAT project for the neighborhood!
