Powering Chicago and Beyond

Ignition, an award winning, experience-based marketing agency, contacted Cushing to print outdoor signage for their client, ComEd, who unveiled a “Powering the Future” initiative.

Out-of-the-Box Project

Over the last two years, the utilities provider has educated customers about the benefits of grid modernization, including how it works and why it benefits the state of Illinois. With an exciting marketing plan moving ahead, complete with ambitious marketing collateral, Ignition needed a print partner to support their objectives long after the ink dried.

After an initial collaboration on ComEd outdoor graphics, projects evolved into a host of out-of-the-box projects. Learn more below and let’s talk about how some of these ideas can impact your business.

Event Marketing

Initial services included signage for iPad kiosks and Coroplast boards for outdoor marketing. For the iPad kiosks, we recommended Dibond, an aluminum composite material providing extreme outdoor durability while protecting graphics. Coroplast signage is a waterproof, lightweight material with non-corrosive properties so it tends not to fade and can handle “wear & tear” when used quite a bit — an ideal fit for numerous outdoor promotional events.

Earth Month Flip Chart and Refrigerator Clings
To complement an educational event that included an interactive game, ComEd needed an oversized 30” x 40” flip chart (large enough to be viewed in a “pep-rally” setting.) We created signage on banner material, clipped together on a large supportive piece of Dibond that stood on an easel. You couldn’t miss it!

Washer and Dryer Cutouts
Seeking an inexpensive method to produce a life-size washer and dryer (to be placed at an event), we suggested a thick Coroplast and low profile stands to prop them up. No suds or duds for this project!

Interior Graphics
Did you know ComEd recently unveiled a Training Annex in Rockford, Illinois? Cushing assisted with several facets of the installation, including consultation prior to the install, material recommendations and mural printing. It included:

  • Floor-to-ceiling wall graphics using adhesive vinyl
  • Vinyl cut lettering matching ComEd’s color red
  • Sintra boards in stands for countertop signs
Lightboxes

When older displays needed an update, Cushing created a template designers at Ignition could use, simplifying the process of creating new graphics. Once revised, graphics were printed to adhesive vinyl and spot mounted to the face of each display.

It was a challenge to have these all line up properly but the team was determined to get it right! Each light box was disassembled, individual graphics were then spot mounted and every box was put back together.
